HOME FIRE SAFETY
Know the facts
Fire is fast! In less than 30 seconds, a small flame can get out of control and turn dangerous. You may only have 2 minutes to get outside safely.
Fire is hot! If there’s a fire the ceiling temperature can be well over 600 degrees. If a room reaches flashover it will be over 1100 degrees!
Fire is dark! Fire isn’t bright, it’s pitch-black. It may be hard to see through smoke.
Fire is deadly! Smoke and toxic gases kill more people than flames.
Stay safe AT HOME by following these tips
Space heaters need space
Be sure to keep a 3 foot zone around space heaters. Purchase space heaters that shut off automatically when they tip over
Close before You Doze
A closed door can be an effective barrier against deadly smoke and flames. Make closing doors at night a part of your bedtime routine.
Keep electrical safety In mind
Electrical malfunction is the leading cause of home fires. Check electrical cords. If they are cracked or damaged, replace them.
Clean Your Dryer Vents
Over 2,900 home clothes dryer fires are reported each year. Clean the lint filter before and after each load of laundry, and clean the vent pipe every three months.
Put lighters AND matches away
Kids don’t know that lighters and matches aren’t toys. Keep them out of reach.
Never leave candles unattended
Kids or pets can accidentally knock over candles. Consider using battery-operated LED candles instead.
