SMOKE ALARMS

Smoke alarms save lives

Did you know that 3 out of 5 home fire deaths happened in homes without smoke alarms? Smoke alarms are an important part of any home safety plan. Fires move fast and alarms will alert your family with enough time to get outside safely.

Smoke alarms only save lives when they work! Test your alarms monthly.

Stay safe by following these tips

interconnect alarms if possible

Choose interconnected smoke alarms that are wired into the house electric system to when one sounds, they all sound.

Where do I install them?

Put smoke alarms inside and outside each bedroom and sleeping area, and on every level of the home.

Change your clocks, change your batteries

Change the battery twice a year when you change your clocks for Daylight Savings Time.

How long are they good for?

Smoke alarms don’t last forever. Get new smoke alarms every 10 years.

What about Carbon Monoxide?

CO gas is a colorless, odorless, and poisonous gas. If you have gas appliances, install CO detectors in your home. You can also install dual smoke and CO detectors.

Teach everyone the sounds of alarms

Does everyone in your home know what sound a smoke alarm makes, and what to do when they beep?
